Spoiled Content on the Internet
Spoiled and Soiled
Let’s face it; if you’re part of the next generation, odds are that you have or will be typing up a research paper in which the background research is mainly found on the internet. You might, say, pick a little quote that supports your thesis statement as well as being worded quite to your picking. It may also be true that your teacher has criticized the use of certain sources, such as Wikipedia, due to them being prone to having inaccurate information. Though some sources can be pretty easily discerned as being invalid for straight research, others are not as straightforward in that respect. In fact, there are some websites out there that look very professional-looking, but when it comes down to the content itself, factual corruptions, misleading content, and the like can occur. Take a look at this website, and you’ll see what I mean:
You see, though this website is technically factual, it is very misleading. It makes it sound like Dihydrogen Monoxide is some horrible substance that must be exterminated. But here’s where the problem sets in: what is Dihydrogen Monoxide? Well, if you took a little chemistry in high school you’d know that actually is just water – one of the things that we humans literally cannot live without. Would we really want to get rid of water, as the website documentation suggests? Probably not, unless we wanted to essentially kill ourselves. So, with that said, it can be stated that some websites are a bit tainted in a literary sense. Even blogs are “tainted” like this. And yes, that probably includes a few of my blogs as well. But I promise I don’t try to do this, unless I want to prove a point. Ironically that’s what I’m actually going to do right about now.
Dressing up Corrupt Documents
Let me try my best to dress a topic that I and probably you know that’s true. The world is not flat. In the rest of this document, I’m going to make a story designed to fool and manipulate people into thinking that the world is flat. So, let’s see if I’m good at being a you-know-what artist.
News… Schmooze…
If you were to log in to the Internet of today, or perhaps turn on the TV, you’ll probably find a news channel. You are probably the type that trusts what comes off the news, no matter how bizarre. But should you really do so? How can you be sure that, say, the journalists are not simply giving some explanation for something, and the federal government is really withholding the disclosure of the real information? That, in my opinion, is a chilling possibility.
Chilling Possibilities
With that said, theoretically it is possible that many of the basic things that we declare as true or false can really be quite the contrary. Things like how the earths flat, for example, that are normally considered by the general media to be false, could actually be true. In fact, the concept of the earth being a mere flat disk has supportive evidence that can be found all around you.
The Evidence
If you take a look around an area, say, Kansas, you’ll probably notice that the ground is pretty flat. In fact, it sometimes seems so flat that you see the landscape practically cut off into the horizon. How can we be so sure that there is actually a slight, unnoticeable curve there, as the media suggests. How can we?
Beyond that, there are also other bits of evidence that should be taken into account. For one, there is the great mystery of the Bermuda Triangle. A lot of people seem to disappear there. It has been questioned for why these recurring disappearances happen, as well as theorized. But what if, as our ancestors once believed, these sorts of disappearances were actually directly linked to people in ships falling off the side of the world? How can we be so sure that the world map as we know it is really media-generated and therefore censored by the government, and with that the area that we know as the Bermuda Triangle is really on the edge of the world?
Conclusion
As you may see, this document may sound factual, based on the fact that it also cites some “evidence”, but it is definitely not factual all the same. Time and time again people get mislead with these kinds of stories. You can only imagine what kind of stuff that could bring. Some could, in fact, be no different than rumors at school. Let’s also not forget that this sort of corrupted information could “infest” itself in later sources posted for information, like later blogs. In a nutshell, corrupted online postings are good for mere entertainment purposes, like this one, but nothing else.
